Parent Involvement Committee

The Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is a parent's way to get involved in their child’s education.

Membership on the PIC is through self-nomination. Interested individuals eligible for nomination to the PIC can indicate their interest in serving by completing a nomination form at the beginning of each school year. To date, elections have not been necessary, thus we are hoping you will add your voice.

Our goal is to have greater representation on the PIC from across our district.  As we are a large district, please know that videoconference and teleconference are also possible for meetings.  Please consider joining the ADSB as your voice will help support all students across our district.

A reminder to parents / guardians and School Council members. If you are interested in serving on our 2025-2026 Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) please complete the self-nomination form below in order to be considered! We ask you to do this by September 19, 2025.

Up to 12 parent members, representing various schools and regions of the board can serve on the PIC (there are also 3 community member positions and 3 employee positions).

Interested parents self-nominate by following this link to the form.

Selected members will be notified later this month. It is our goal to provide representation from across schools and from across our district, thus all meetings will be accessible virtually. These positions are a one-year or two-year term, which you can indicate on the form.

Similar to a School Council, the PIC focuses on our schools as a system, supporting school councils and addressing issues that matter to all parents across the district.  Specifically, the mandate of the PIC is to:

  • support, encourage, and enhance meaningful parent engagement at the board level to improve student achievement and well-being;
  • provide information and advice to the board on parent engagement;
  • communicate with and support school councils;
  • undertake activities to help parents support their children’s learning at home and at school.

Thank you for your consideration of this opportunity.  We welcome your voice to help support all students across our district.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is a PIC different from School Council?

As a PIC member, you participate at the Board level and focus on things that affect more than one school.  In fact, the PIC is a direct link between parents and ADSB's director of education and the Board's trustees.  As part of School Council, you will offer opinions and advice on matters specific to your child's schools.

Who sits on Parent Involvement Committees?

Most members are parents and the committee is chaired by a parent. But the director of education and trustee representatives also sit on the committee. This helps communication flow both ways. It helps the school board communicate with parents and makes sure that parent voices are heard by the board.
